Sound + Light Waves Flashcards
Amplitude
The maximum movement of a vibration from its central position
Dispersion
The spreading out of the different colours of white light
Frequency
The number of vibrations each second of a sound wave
Hertz (Hz)
The unit of frequency, one hertz equals one vibration per second
Luminous
An object which is a source of its own light
Normal
A line drawn at right angles (90°) to a surface at the point where a Ray of light strikes it
Opaque
A material which does not transmit light
Primary Colours
The three colours of light (red, green, blue) which can be mixed to produce white light
Transparent
A material through which light can pass
Reflected Ray
A ray of light which has been reflected by a mirror or other surface
Reflection
The bouncing back of a ray of light when it strikes the surface of a non-transparent material
Refraction
The bending of a ray of light as it travels from one material into another
