Sound Light Elec Flashcards
Amplitude
The height of a wave from the rest position
Frequency
Number of complete waves that pass a fixed point in a given time
Refraction
The bending of waves as they enter a new medium
Doppler effect
The apparent change in frequency of a wave as the source moves in relation to the observer
Resonance
When any object is struck by a wave that matches it’s natural frequency, the object will vibrate (tuning forks and earth quake)
Pitch
How high or low a sound seems to an observer
Order of electromagnetic spectrum
Radio waves Microwaves Infrared waves Visible light Ultraviolet rays X-rays Gamma rays
Polarizing filters
Block all angles of light waves not parallel to the filter
Current
Continuous flow of electrons measured in Amps
Voltage/potential difference
The difference in electrical potential in a circuit measured in colts
Resistance
Opposition to the flow of a current measured in ohms
What is the ohms law equation
V=I•R
Series circuit
Only one continuous path for electricity to travel
Parallel circuit
Multiple paths for electricity to take
Factors affecting resistance
Diameter of a wire
Length of a wire
Temp of a wire
Type of material of a wire
