Sound And Light Flashcards
Refraction
The bending of light waves when they down whilst going through a different medium
Plane mirror
A plain mirror reflects light perfectly(specular reflection)
Cornea
The cornea protects the eye
Lens
The lens refracts light so you can see
Retina
When the light hits here it sends the image to the brain
Speed of light
300,000,000 metres a second
Speed of sound
340 metres a second in air, 1500 m/s in a liquid and 5000 m/s in a solid.
Pitch
How high it is in Hz
Amplitude
The volume of a sound
Frequency
How high pitch it is
Medium
A different material
Spectrum
The colures in a rainbow
Wave
The transfer of energy
Ultrasound
Sound humans can’t hear
Echo
Reflection of sound
Audible range
The range of what humans can hear
Vaccum
A place where there are no particles (eg. Space)
Convex lens
A convex lens converges light by refracting it
Concave lens
A concave lens diverges light by refracting it
Oscillation
This is when something moves back and forth continualy
Reverberation
This courses an echo
Trough
The top of a wave
Reflected ray
This is when light bounces of a plane mirror
Angle of refraction
The angle that is made when something is refracted
Incident ray
The ray that gets reflected
Specular reflection
Specular reflection is the mirror like reflection
Transversal wave
When the vibrations are at a right angle
Longitudinal wave
This is when the wave is parallel
Law of reflection
The incident ray and reflected rays angles compared to the normal are the same
Diffuse scattering
When the light hits a rough surface and scatters
Dispersion
the separation of white light into colours
Wave length
the distance over which the wave’s shape repeats
