Q

What is the body theory?

A

The body theory states that we, as a person, are our physical body.
For example, if you go through something mentally traumatic, you are still you.
But if we cut our fingernails, or get an organ transplant, are we still ourselves! How much of our body must be replaced before we are no longer ourselves?

Q

What did Aristotle believe about the soul?

A

Body= matter soul= form
If an axe were living, the soul would be the thing that made it an axe (its ability to chop). If it lost this, it wouldn’t be an axe, it would be wood and metal.
They are part of the same thing.
Soul is not capable of living without the body
