The Sophists were people Socrates often found himself having arguments with as the Sophists just wanted to win arguments and would give clever arguments that sounded convincing but turned out to be wrong or deceptive.

The most common argument techniques that the Sophists used were the Straw Man, Ad Hominem and a Leading Question.
What was a Straw Man argument technique?
A Straw man argument technique is when someone gives an unfair description of the views of your opponent.

An Ad Hominem argument technique is when someone attacks the arguer as a person rather than talking about the argument.

A Leading Question argument technique is when someone asks something to which they obviously know the answer to.
