When are Service related duties permitted to be carried out by crew?
During the Cruise phase of the flight.
The Cruise phase of flight is:
After the seat belt sign is off after take-off until the Top of Descent (Which is 10 mins before the “Cabin Crew, prepare cabin for Landing” PA made by the Tech crew).
Communication is open between the Flight Crew and Cabin crew during the Cruise phase of flight.
What are the three different types of Turbulence?
- Anticipated Turbulence
- Unanticipated Light Turbulence
- Unanticipated Turbulence - Immediate Safety Hazard.
What is Anticipated Turbulence?
Turbulence that can be predicted (i.e. from weather reports and flight radar).

Crew Action: Cabin crew to lock carts into position and secure themselves immediately (if a vacant seat is not available, they are to wedge themself as safe as possible).
After the event of Unanticipated Turbulence - Immediate safety hazard, if circumstances permit, the CSM will initiate the call back, if you are in a position to respond to the call back (i.e. in your jump seat or in the galley) what is your call back response?

(Seat belt sign is not on yet - approx 10 mins before seat belt sign illuminates).
What is the Cabin Crew Action?
To prepare the cabin for landing:
Passengers are seated
Cabin baggage stowed
overhead lockers secured
tray tables & footrests stowed
Bassinets stowed
Curtains secured open
Window shutters open
Flight deck cleared
Catering/amenities stowed
Carts stowed and brakes applied
Aisles & Crossovers clear
Seats upright and locked
Who has the responsibility of securing the galley for landing?
The Galley Operator and Opposite Door primary
After the seatbelt sign illuminates the CSM will make the following PA
“All customers and crew must now be seated for landing with their seatbelt fastened”
What are the crew actions?
Visually check to ensure passengers are seated
Ensure lavatories are vacant (Single fold door/disabled) is locked
you have 1 minute to return to your assigned jump seat and secure yourself
The CSM initiates a call back to the “All customers and crew must now be seated for landing with their seatbelt fastened”
What is the callback response?
Door number, name cabin (and galley if applicable) secured for landing

Cabin Sterile period (safety related conversations only) until seatbelt signs are off

When does the sterile CABIN period start and end on landing?
the sterile CABIN period starts when the seatbelts signs are illuminated for landing until the aircraft stops at the terminal (doors are disarmed and seatbelt signs are turned off)

when is there no contact to the flight deck during the Sterile flight deck phase of landing?
From Gear down (or exits signs illuminate on the A380) until the Aircraft turns off the active runway
