A

During the Cruise phase of the flight.

The Cruise phase of flight is:
After the seat belt sign is off after take-off until the Top of Descent (Which is 10 mins before the “Cabin Crew, prepare cabin for Landing” PA made by the Tech crew).

Communication is open between the Flight Crew and Cabin crew during the Cruise phase of flight.

The pre flight briefing must be appropriate to the passenger’s needs.

The briefing is conducted prior to general passenger boarding.

A
  1. Explain the purpose of the briefing
  2. show the briefing card
  3. Explain the use and adjustment of seatbelt
  4. location of emergency exits
  5. use of oxygen
  6. use of life jackets
  7. Brace positions - on the onboard safety card.
  8. Inform the passenger how to recognize the commands indicating when to move to an exit
  9. count out the number of rows to the nearest exit row with them
  10. Advise the prohibition of smoking and vaping including in the toilets
  11. Explain the requirement to stow hand luggage
  12. point out where the lavatories are located
  13. show the pax where the call light is
  14. Ask the pax if they will require assistance in the event of an evacuation?

If YES - if there is no carer with them, inform them that you will come and assist them once the main body of passengers has evacuated.
Ask them how they need to be assisted?

If NO - inform that they should evacuate with the main flow of passengers, and that cabin crew will move through the cabin to assist any passengers who have not yet evacuated the aircraft.

What are the carriage requirements of CBBG?

A

One boarding pass will be issued to the passenger annotated ‘CBBG’ under the service section

CBBG to be carried in a window seat with passenger sitting in adjacent seat

Passenger to secure the CBBG item to seat passing the seat belt firmly through the handle and around the item, additional extender seat belts may also be required in order to secure the item - the handle must be secure with no evidence of damage.

CBBG item must not be placed in an emergency exit row or placed where it will limit access to bassinettes

Cabin Crew are required to brief passengers with infants travelling in their zone, what information is to be provided?

A

Provide the infant seat belt and demonstrate how to put it on and take it off

Advise that infant life jackets are carried on board and will be provided by crew if required

Brief the passenger on the features of the infant life jacket using the on board safety card as a reference

Inform the passenger that they must unfasten both the infant seat belt and their own seat belt in an evacuation

A

UM’s are not be seated:

  1. Next to an adult male
  2. in an emergency exit if less than 15 years old
  3. in a window seat if the UM is the only unescorted child, unless the row is vacant or the entire row is taken by UMs or other children.

What information should be provided in an UM (Unacompanied Minor) briefing?

  1. Safety briefing - location of exits (count out the exit rows), use of oxygen masks, lifejacket and seat belt
  2. Show the safety onboard card
  3. Instructions on disembarkation procedures
  4. general orientation of the aircraft - where the lavatories are and the service to be given
  5. ensure that their seatbelt is securely fastened and they are able to undo their seatbelt
  6. Advise them that in the event of an emergency they should leave the aircraft with the other passengers and remain with them until Cabin Crew exit the aircraft.

What are the 3 PED (Portable Electronic Devices) Categories?

  1. HAND HELD PED’S AND UNRESTRICTED DEVICES i.e. mobile phones and ipads, noise cancelling headsets, headphones, hearing aides, earbuds, smart watches (blue tooth devices), electronic games, e-readers etc
  2. LARGER PED’s not exceeding 1kg - i.e. larger ipads and laptops
  3. TRANSMITTING DEVICES - i.e. remote controlled devices, walkie talkies, radios, two-way pagers, portable LCD television etc.

What is the procedure for the suspected loss of a PED in a passenger seat?

A

Power to the seat must be deactivated where possible

The seat’s occupant must be instructed not to touch the seat controls

Cabin Crew are to notify to OBM immediately

Power to the seat must not be reactivated unless the PED is located.
