Steps in the Procedure
9. pre-donation instructions
- Recall history of donor’s travel outside place of residence within the country and outside the country
- Illnesses, history of medical consultation within past 6 months and medications taken
- No fatty foods 1 day prior to MBD and on the day of MBD
- Adequate rest – 6 to 8 hours sleep
- Hydration – 8 to 10 glasses of water; no alcohol, minimize coffee and caffeinated beverages
- Full non-fat breakfast at least 2 hours before blood collection
- valid ID with picture, full name and date of birth
Steps in the Procedure
2. After every discussion point, ask potential donor if he/she has any question. Refer to Frequently Asked Questions for the standard answer to these questions (SOP 02.1 Annex 2).
3. After all the questions have been answered, distribute information materials on VBD – (2)

4. Go through the completed DHQ with the donor, especially questions 10 – 13. If the donor has not read the ___(2), he cannot proceed with the donation process.

6. Review the content of the informed consent, and remind the donor that he is free to back out from donating blood 7. Give instructions for post donation self-care
