SOP Flashcards
Submerged Override and Cable Angle Hover
Cable angle hover mode SHALL be operable for all dipping sonar operations.
Submerged override SHALL NOT be used for routine operations.
Passenger/Orientation flight limitations
No simulated emergencies, practice autorotations, intentional degradations of the aircraft or ordnance release, to include midshipman flights
Pre-embarkation Proficiency
To the maximum extent practicable…
Minimum of 9 hours w/in 45 days of underway
Obtain night currency and instrument currency prior to embarkation
During intervals of 45 days or less between embarked ops, SHOULD fly a minimum of 6 hours and achieve night and instrument currency prior to the next embarkation
Course Rules post Det
If greater than 90 days, pilots SHALL complete a squadron or DET-led course rules brief
Degradation of the aircraft at night
Simulated EPs requiring the actual degradation of the aircraft at night are prohibited except:
- Single engine approaches and landings to a prepared surface with adequate overrun and underrun to allow safe execution
- Single engine running landings
- Boost off and failed SAS/AFCS
- Simulated lost ICS
- Stab auto mode failure
Practice autos at night are prohibited
DECU Lockout
Prohibited in flight unless as part of an FCF or FCF training
DECU Lockout
Prohibited in flight unless as part of an FCF or FCF training
Radius of Action
Shipboard: 150 NM or maximum reliable navigation/comms range, whichever is less
Time spent beyond 150 NM may be approved by ISIC. Time spent beyond 150 NM SHALL be limited to the maximum required to accomplish the mission.
One way missions:
150 NM ship to ship
200 NM ship to shore
APU Operations
SHOULD be started on deck to the maximum extent practicable
Aircraft configuration for Autorotations
Prohibited at night
Pilot and copilot radalt SHALL be operable
Simulated engine failures from a HOGE SHALL only be initiated over a surface where a running landing can be made
The APU SHALL be turned on prior to conducting single-engine operations and practice autos
Hearing protection
Single hearing protection:
within 200 FT of an aircraft with rotors turning
within 50 FT of an aircraft with APU turning
Double hearing protection:
within 30 FT of aircraft with rotors turning
within 30 FT of APU running for extended periods of time
not required inside the aircraft
Live GUNEX
Crews SHALL be responsible for own range clearance to a minimum of 5 NM beyond max weapons employment envelopes for the CSW
Crews SHALL conduct/comply with PMAP prior to employing CSW, Hellfire, or active sonar
Fuel dumping
Non-emergency fuel dumping SHALL be performed over water and SHALL be at least 10 miles away from any land
ALFS Weather and POCL
Dipping sonar ops SHOULD not be conducted in seas with wave heights exceeding 10 feet, winds exceeding 17-21 kts, or known/discovered currents greater than 4 kts during unit level training or fleet level operations
During dipping sonar training operations (with or without a submarine), POCL SHALL be no more than half the ceiling up to 1000 ft ceiling. When ceilings are above 1000 ft, POCL SHALL be no more than 500 ft below the ceiling
CAL/LZ power margins
Power available check SHALL be conducted at planned landing altitude before commencing the approach
The intermediate power available margin SHALL be 10% or greater to proceed with the approach
Operational CAL flights other than those of operational necessity SHALL adhere to this power margin
RADALT Discipline
Consideration should be given to setting the DH to no lower than 10 percent of the current altitude
Each crewmember SHALL verbalize to the crew their DH settings and activation of warning tones
Concurrent A/C operations
SHALL not conduct concurrent ops unless an emergency landing site (shore or ship) is within 50 NM during the entire evolution
Applies to missions where the parent ship is the intended point of landing for both aircraft, and does not apply to missions scheduled for termination at other than the parent ship. The 50 NM requirement does not apply to fly-ons. It also does not apply for concurrent manned/unmanned operations
Warm up flights
Any pilot who has not flown in 45 days SHALL fly a warm-up flight with a current HAC
Warm up flights SHOULD include autorotations and other fam type maneuvers as determined by COs
Wash rack use
SHOULD be taxied through after last flight of the day and after any flight with overwater hovering/shipboard operations
SHALL not take it through with external ordnance, ALE-47, M-299, or without the sonobuoy cover, cargo hook cover, or transmission drip pan
PIC SHALL minimize direct spray onto MTS turret and RADALT antennas
