Effleurage
Drains blood and lymph, warms an area for deeper work, calms and connects with the animal, transitions between areas, and cools down an area when moving to another
Muscle Squeezing
(Pétrissage) decongests and relaxes strained muscles. Do not pull the muscle away from bony support
Rocking
With one hand on the crest and one hand supporting the neck, rock to initiate movement
Shaking
(Pétrissage) increases circulation
Wringing
(Pétrissage) increases circulation
Feather Strokes
Raking lightly with fingertips, using light pressure
Compression
Curved hand for limbs, palm or fist for body. Decongests and relaxes muscle, pumps blood and lymph
Tugging
(Tail and Forelock) gentle but firm pressure pulling the hair away from the body, causing a release of tension in the muscles connected with the hair follicles
