Sonority for Movement One
Four Part Chorus (SATB), Three Oboes including: a taille (Cor Anglais); strings consisting of violins I and II, viola, cello and violone (double bass); and continuo provided by Harpsichord
Violins and viola double soprano, alto and tenor lines, cello ‘shadows’ the bass (heterophony)
Sonority for Movement Two
Vocal duet, soprano and bass, soprano is doubled by oboe (occasional heterophony)
Violins I, II and violas provide an obbligato line in unison (a prominent and essential independent melody), supported by continuo
Sonority for Movement Eight
Chorale, requires SATB with each part doubled by instruments: soprano and alto by oboe d’amore and violins; tenor by taille and viola; bass by continuo instruments
