Some revision Flashcards
1
Q
What are the functions of antibodies
A
- Opsonisation
- Activating B lymphocytes
- Antigen clumping and inactivation of bacterial toxin
- Activates antibody-dependent cellular activity
- Triggers mast-cell degranulation
- Activates complement
2
Q
What is complement
A
- 20 tightly regulate proteins produced by the liver
- Usually present in the ciculation as inactive molecules
- When triggered will enzymatically activate other molecules in a cascade
- Ripid highly amplified responce
- Important in both inate and antibody mediated immunity
3
Q
What are the pathways which lead to compliment activation
A
- Classical pathway = Antigen + antibody + C1
- Lectin pathway = MBL (manose binding lectin) + Mannose+ve pathogen
- Alternative pathway = Spontaneous C3 cleavage
4
Q
What are the effects of complement activation
A
5
Q
How is complement activation swtiched off
A
Fragments of complement which can dissolve the immune complex which
trigger them, switching off the complement activation - Negative feedback
6
Q
What are all the hypersensitvity reactions
A
