Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry Flashcards
Law of Conservation of Mass
Mass can neither be created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction
Law of Definite Proportions
A given compound always has the same proportion of elements by weight
Law of multiple proportions
If two elements combine to form more than 2 compounds, then the masses of one element that combines with the fixed mass of the other element, are in the ratio of simple whole numbers
Gay Lussac’s Law of Gaseous Volumes
When gases combine or are produced in a chemical reaction, they do so in simple ration by volume
Avogadro’s Law
Equal volumes of all gases at same temp and pressure should contain equal number of molecules
Find Molecular mass using vapor density
2 x Vapor Density = Molecular Mass
