Somatosensory Tract Flashcards
All the somatosensory tracts
General sensory pathway Dorsal column - medial lemniscus pathway Spinothalamic tracts Spinocerebellar pathways Ascending trigeminothalamic tracts
Input of dorsal column
Pacini and Meissner corpuscles
Muscle spindles
Golgi tendons organ
DORSAL CLOMUN NEURON INITIAL LOCATION
- First order neuron
- Second order neuron
- Third order neuron
- Dorsal root ganglion
- Gracile and cuneate nuclei of medulla
- VPL nucleus in thalamus
DORSAL COLUMN
- First order neuron
- Second order neuron
- Third order neuron
- Give rise to fasciculus grasilis from lower extremities & fasciculus cuneatus from upper extremities
- Give rise to internal arcuate fibres decussate in midline and form medial lemniscus
- Project via internal capsule (post. limb) to primary somatosensory cortex
Lesion in drosal column
Loss of ability to identify object by active touch of the hand without visual imput (astereogenesis)
Dorsal column lesion
Ipsilateral loss of position and vibrator senses below level of lesion
SPINOTHALAMIC TRACT
- Ventral receive input from _______________ and carries ___________ sensation
- Lateral receive input from ____________ and carries ___________ sensation
- Free nerve endings and Merkle tactile disk, light and touch
- Free nerve endings and thermal receptors, pain and temperature
SPINOTHALAMIC TRACTS
- First order neuron projects via ____________ to second order neuron.
- In dorsal horn, second order neuron ____________________
- Third order neuron project via _________________ to primary somatosensory cortex.
- Dorsoateral tract of Lissaurer
- Decussate in ventral white commissure
- Posterior limb of internal capsule
Unilateral lesion in spinal cord of lateral spinothalamic tracts results in?
Contralateral loss of pain and temperature sensation
Function of ascending trigeminothalamic tracts.
Destination
If lesion occured?
Carry GSA (general somatic afferent) from face.
Primary somatosensory cortex (face area)
Loss of face sensation
SPINOCEREBELLAR PATHWAY
- Dorsal and ventral tracts carry input from________________.
- Cuneocerebellar carry input from ___________.
- Lower extremities and lower trunk.
2. Upper extremities and upper trunk.
