- 1 or more distressing or disrupting somatic
symptoms
- Excessive thoughts, feelings or behaviors
related to the somatic symptoms
- Being symptomatic is persistent- typically more
than 6 months
- Specify if with predominant pain (formerly Pain
Disorder)

- Preoccupation with having or acquiring a
serious illness
- Somatic symptoms are absent or mild
- High level of anxiety
- Excessive health related behaviors
- Illness preoccupation for at least 6 months

getting sick along with performing excessive
health related behavior and/or maladaptive
avoidance behaviors. - With SSD, there are somatic symptoms clearly
present, but the client is overly fixated/troubled
beyond the medical norm.
