Solubility Rules Flashcards
What are the 7 strong acids?
HCL, HBr, HI, HNO3, HCLO3, HCLO4, H2SO4
What are the 7 strong bases?
LIOH, NaOH, RbOH, Ba(OH)2, Ca(OH)2, Sr(OH)2, KOH
What is the first rule of solubility?
All group IA salts and NH4+1 salts are soluble
What is the second rule of solubility?
All NO3, NO2, CLO4, CLO3, C2H3O2, HCO3 salts are soluble
What is the third rule of solubility?
All CL, Br, and I salts are soluble except for Ag, Pb, Hg2
What is the fourth rule of solubility?
All sulfate (SO4) salts are soluble EXCEPT when combined with Ag, Pb, Hg, and Ca, Ba, Sr
What is the fifth rule of solubility?
Salts containing PO4, CO3, F, OH, S, O, CrO4, Cr2O2 are insoluble (unless rule 1,2,3, or 4 applies!)
What is the sixth rule of solubility?
Apply all rules in order
What is the seventh rule of solubility?
Ionic compounds ONLY (Not acids/bases)
