solubility of salts Flashcards
soluble salts can be made by reacting what and give examples
by reacting acids with solid insoluble substances such as
1) pure metals
2) metal oxides
3) metal hydroxide
4) metal carbonates
how is blue copper sulphate produced
blue copper sulphate is produced by adding black copper oxide to sulphuric acid
what’s the equation for blue copper sulfate crystals
copper oxide + sulfuric acid → copper sulfate + water
explain the method for Separating Mixtures test
1) gently warm an acid using a bunsen burner
2) add the insoluble solid until no more reacts
3) filter the solution to remove the excess insoluble solid
4) heat the solution in an evaporating basin above a beaker of water
5) leave the solution to cool and allow more water to evaporate
6) as the water evaporates the solution will become more concentrated and the salt will begin to crystallise
if a reaction produces an insoluble solid what is it called
its called a precipitate
give an example of a precipitate
silver chloride
to obtain the insoluble salt what do you need to do
filter the products using a filter paper
how do you produce insoluble salts
from mixing two solute reactants together
What must be reacted together to produce a soluble salt?
insoluble substance
acid
