Solubility of gases Flashcards
What are the four states of solubility
Unsaturated, Saturated, Supersaturated and bit of an exception precipitate
What is the solubility-temp trend for salts and why
higher temperature more soluble. This is because generally dissolution of salts is endothermic
What is the solubility-temp trend for gases and why
Higher temperature, less soluble. This is because generally dissolution of gases is exothermic
What is molarity
moles per dm3 or moles per litre (the same)
What is normality
the mass per mole of charge (also known as equivalent weight) per dm3
What is the solubility-pressure trend for gases and why
Increase in pressure increases solubility. Increasing pressure increases the concentration so more is dissolved
What does the solubility of gases in water depend on
Temperature, pressure and salt concentration
what is the equation for the solubility of gases
solubility = henrys law constant x partial pressure
