Solids Liquids And Gases Flashcards
Density=
Mass/Volume
Pressure=
Force/Area
Pressure difference=
Height x Density x Gravitational field strength
How to find the density of an object using mass and volume:
First to find its mass, use a balance.
After yo have its mass, is its a regular object, measure its length, width and height and x them to find its volume and do the mass/ volume.
However if it’s and irregular shaped object, put it in an eureka can and the displaced water will be transferred to a measuring cylinder. That number on the measuring cylinder, equal the volume and then to find pressure you do m/v.
Pressure difference is the difference in…
pressure between 2 points in a liquid or gas. It dependes on the height and the density. Gravity has an effect too.
Absolute ZERO is the
Coldest an object can be -273ºC and this = to 1KELVIN
The temperature of a gas (in kelvin) is proportional to…
The average energy in the kinetic energy store of its particles.
Particle theory says that colliding gas particles create pressure
As gas particles move they randomly collide with the wall of the container, and gain more thermal energy which makes the particles collide with the containers harder and create more pressure, also this increases its kinetic energy and as a result makes them collide with the walls of the container more frequently. Therefore the pressure increases as pressure= force/area
Pressure1 Volume1 = p1xv1 p2xv2 = p1xv1 / v2= p2
Pressure2 Volume2
Pressure1/ Temperature1 = p1/t1= p2/t2 = p1/t1 x t2= p2
Pressure2/ Temperature2
