Solicitors (criticisms) Flashcards
1
Q
What question did one critic pose?
A
Posed the question of whether the public would be satisfied with doctors who gave only studied medicine for one year, concentrating on only 6 subjects. Yet this is precisely what is occurring in the legal profession
2
Q
A third problem is over supply.
Why is this?
A
Students who have passed the LPC are unable to obtain a training contract.
This can be a problem particularly during times of economic crisis when legal firms will be cutting back rather than recruiting
3
Q
Why is a lack of legal knowledge a criticism?
A
- Non law graduates do only one year of formal law for the CPE or GDL
- There have been many recommendations that the main entry route should be via a law degree but in practice 25% of solicitors will not have taken a law degree
