(circuit court upon proof of ordination can authorize ministers)

2) Judge’s or gov officials

When must solemnization occur ?

60 days within the issuance of the marriage license

Do witnesses need to be present at marriage ceremony ?

No- there is no requirement

Va recognizes that there is a strong presumption that a marriage is valid.

Marriages that have been solemnized under a license by a person not legally authorized to solemnize will NOT be void because that persons lack of authority

Defects in the license of marriage does not void the marriage if

1) is lawful in other respects ; and
2) consummated with a full belief of the parties that have been lawfully married

A celebrant is required to file a marriage certificate within 5 days of the marriage ceremony.

Answer 6

However, failure to do so does not invalidate the marriage
