SOLAS/MCA REQUIREMENTS Flashcards
MCA damage stability requirements
Bulkheads should be arrangened that hull damage that results in flooding of any one compartment will cause vessel to float at a waterline which at any point is not less that 75mm below the weather deck
Residual stability at any angle of equilibrium does not exceed 7 degrees from the upright, the resulting righting lever has a range to the down flooding angle of at least 15 degrees beyond any angle of equilibrium
The max righting lever within that range is not less than 100mm and the area under the curve is not less than 0.015 meter radians
SOLAS Convention minimum seaworthy requirements for statical and dynamical stability
- The area under curve up to 30 degrees to be not less than 0.055 meter-radian.
- The area under curve up to 40° or floodable angle, whichever first occurs to be not less than 0.09 meter-radian.
- The area between 30° and 40° (or floodable angle whichever first occurs) to be not less than 0,03 meter-radian
- The maximum GZ to occur at angle not less than 30 degrees and to be at least 0.20 meters in height
- Initial GM to be not less than 0. 15 meters. In ships with timber deck cargo 0.05 meters will
be permitted.
SOLAS requirements Dynamical Stability
Dynamical Stability requirements under the SOLAS CONVENTION:

2 - Area under curve up to 40° or floodable angle, whichever first occurs to be not less than 0,09 metre-radian.
3- The area between 30° and 40° (or floodable angle whichever first occurs) to be not less than 0.03 metre-radians
