Solar System Flashcards
Geocentric model
Our solar system with the earth in the center and the sun and the planets moving around it
Heliocentric model
The sun in the middle of our solar system with the planets revolving around it
Gravity
The attractive force between two objects
Solar system
The gravitationally bound system of the sun and the objects that orbit it
Epicycles
A smaller orbit that is used to explain the movements of planets and the sun
Elliptical orbit
The rotation of a planet in an oval shaped path
Sun
The star star at the center of our solar system
Planet
An object that orbits the sun, be rounded by gravity and be able sun to clear its orbit
Dwarf planet
A planet that doesn’t follow one of the three rules to be a planet
Natural satellite (moon)
A thing that orbits a planet while the planet orbits the sun
Asteroid
A large rock shaped object in space that orbits the sun
Comet
Chunks of ice and dust traveling through space
Meteoroids
A rocky object that orbits the sun
Revelation
The movement of an object moving around another object
Rotation
Spinning motion of a planet on its axis
