Soil 2 Flashcards
Between the aggregates are small gaps
pores
List me five type of soil.
Platy, prismatic, columnar, blocky, granular
soil structure
-flat aggregates
-pile horizon
-overlap and prevent water and air from passing through them.
-commonly found in the “A horizon”
Platy soil
-prism like block
-flat top
-1-10cm in diameter
-allow water and air to pass through
-found in the “B horizon
Prismatic soil
-cube like block
-1-5 cm in diameter
-allows water, air, and plants roots to pass through
-found in “B horizon” where the soil clay content is high
Blocky soil structure
-spherical grains of sand, silt, and clay
- 1-10mm in diameter
-many pores spaces
-allows water, air, and plant root to pass through
-found in “A horizon”
Granular soil
The vertical arrangement of soil horizons is called?
soil profile
First 3 layer (up to down)
O horizon (organic)
A horizon (topsoil)
E horizon (eluvial)
Last 3 layer
B horizon (subsoil)
C horizon (substratum)
R horizon (bedrock)
