perform various operations and functions
SOFTWARE OWNERSHIP
- Under the copyright law, the creator of the software is the owner of the copyright and is granted the exclusive rights for its use and distribution.
- Software can be a proprietary/closed source or open-source
PROPRIETARY
- software owned by individual or organization
- sometimes referred to as closed source software
- The owner of the software has the right to modify or add features to the program’s source code and can sell it.
COMMERCIAL

by a company or an individual
• It is not a free software. Users need to purchase or pay for the licenses.
• It cannot be copied or distributed.

FREEWARE
- Freeware is a type of proprietary software that is free.
* There are restrictions on its use and the source code is kept secret.
SHAREWARE
• type of proprietary software which is initially free of
charge to users.
• After certain period, users may have to purchase the software in
order to use them.
OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE
- normally developed by a community of developers.
- Users may use the software as well as modify them.
- free software that is made available under a copyright license
