What is the BIOS?
Basic Input Output System.
What does the BIOS do?
It provides a “starting line” for a computer that is turned on.
What else doe the BIOS do?
It provides instructions on what to do after turning on.
It also allows the compiler to detect and test hardware.
It directs the hardware to fine the OS. If its not found, the BIOS returns an error.
What is the CMOS?
It’s a chip used in computers.
Originally contained the information BIOS had.
Nowadays it’s used in computers to keep track of time when they’re off.
What are some drawbacks of the CMOS?
It required a small battery for operation. When it died, the settings were lost.
Is BIOS a part of Firmware?
Yes, BIOS can be conceptialluces as part of firmware.
