What are the 4 stages of soft tissue healing
Bleeding, Inflammation, Proliferation, Remodelling
What is remodelling
When scar tissue is replaced by stronger healthier tissue
What is Proliferation
When temporary tissue (granulation tissue) is laid down at the injury site to begin the healing process
What does R.I.C.E stand for?
Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation
What does POLICE stand for?
Protect, Optimally load, Ice, Compress, Elevate
What does PEACE & LOVE stand for?
Protection, Elevation, Avoid Anti Inflammatory, Compress, Education & Load, Optimise, Vascularisation, Exercise
How does Infection effect healing
If a wound is contaminated then non replicating cells will be present, slowing down the process of healing.
What are Red Flags for Cauda Equina?
Numbness/tingling in saddle area, ED, Bi Lateral Sciatic like pain, Urinary problems, Bowel Dysfunction
What are RED Flags for Malignancy
Change in bowel habits, sudden unexplained weight loss, bloating, bleeding, yellow itchy skin, lumps, back pain
What are Red Flags of Fracture
Age, Trauma, prolonged use of steroids, contusion (bleeding)
