Socratic Questioning Flashcards
Socratic questioning refs
SQ is not just pointing out the flaws in a client’s reasoning but using collaborative empiricism and guided discovery through the client’s thought processes to help them generate their own understanding and solutions
Padesky (1993)
SQ is used to understand and question the client’s reasoning
There’s no standardised definition of SQ or model of how to use it consistently in practice making it hard to research
Theres no research validating its effectiveness
There’s a consensus that SQ is fundamental to CBT
Clarke & Egan (2015)
SQ predicted session to session symptom change in depression regardless of the client’s rating of the therapeutic relationship
Braun, Strunk, Sasso & Cooper (2015)
