Feminist Theory
developed to understand women and their roles in society taking gender as a primary lens to view society
functionalism
places importance on our shared norms and values so society is enabled to function properly and collectively
conflict theory
emphasizes the role of power in society, social order is maintained by the power in the hands of those who have the greatest social powers and they maintain their lives at the expense of others
symbolic interactionism
individuals make sense of their social world through social interactions
Ethnocentric
seeing ones culture according to the standards of their own culture, agreed upon based on values and beliefs

observe, test hypothesis, analyze data, develop conclusions/findings
qualitative research
seeks to understand the “why”, usually not generalizable
quantitative research
seeks to understand the “what”, is generalizable
social learning theory
identIty created through interaction of social and mental worlds, young children learn the principles that shape the external world
functional theory
internalizing the values of society reinforces social consensus, society relies upon conformity to maintain stability and social equilibrium
conflict theory
individual and group aspirations are shaped by the opportunities available to different groups, social control agents exert pressure to conform
symbolic interaction theory
identity emerges as the creative self interacts with the social expectations of others, expectations of others form the social context for learning social roles
