What is primary socialisation?
Learning the basic norms & values from ages 0-5. Intimate & prolonged contact with family, learnt through imitation, trial & error.
What is secondary socialisation?
Occurs after primary socialisation through agencies of informal & formal social control (e.g., school, law, friends). Norms and values are learnt in preparation for the future. Socialisation enables people to integrate into society.
What are some aspects of secondary socialisation?
School, peers, work, religion and media.
