- Bourgeoisie- the capitalists who own the means of production, and power to control society. Where the conflict perspective comes from.

How does the family perform an ideological function according to Marxists?
- What do they mean by “Ideology”

- Ideology-A set of values and beliefs that justify inequality that allows for a capitalist society to be reproduced and justified.
- Allows people to view the family unit and society as unchangeable and fair
- Socialises children into thinking that hierarchy and inequality are normal
- The power adults have within the family unit results in children being prepared to take orders from a capitalist employer.

Explain the difference between ascribed and achieved status.
Ascribed- out of individual control. Example-Gender, race, and class. Largely unchangeable. Obvs gender is now changeable….. don’t cancel me.
Achieved- an individual can control. For example, working was up to a career position. Individual achievement.
What is meant by culture, norms, and socialisation
a) The important factors to a group of people that shapes concepts such as celebrated events, food, hunting rituals, and religion. Significant to the customs, traditions, language, skills, and knowledge.
b) An informal law of behavior/social rule that results in judgment from the individual. if not ahered to.
c) The lifelong process of learning behavior, culture, norms, and values. Split into primary ad secondary socialization.
What is the difference between the structural and social action views of society?
Structural- Individual is fully shaped by society. A macro approach that focuses on the result of socialisation.
Social action- Power of individuals in choice and shaping society. Micro approach.
What is the cause of the class conflict according to marxism?
Money, capitalism
In functionalism what is the benefit of the members of society sharing the same culture?
-a sense of belonging
Who was Emile Durkheim?
-He argued that structure existed above the level of the individual
because norms and values precede the individual – they already exist in society when we are born into it.
