Types of groups
Dyad = a group of 2
Primary group = small close-knit group
Secondary group = impersonal or formal gathering of people
What are sanctions
A reward or punishment that encourages or discourages a behaviour
Most are applied to encourage people to conform to the norms of a group
What is collective behaviour
The behaviour by a large group that does not reflect existing rules,institutions and structures of society
What are the 2 explanations for collective behaviour
Convergence theory
Rational decision theory
What is convergence theory
When a large group comes together a collective action is the most common outcome
What is rational decision theory
Assumes that at some point we make a decision wether or not to join in a collective behaviour
What is solidarity
Its those things which ties a group together
