- Each person passes through a life cycle
- Each stage is marked by conflict and the manner in which conflict is resolved. Strongly effects an individual’s personal development

- Cognitive development=how we think
- Children think in concert terms= no sense that there is a world that they can’t see
- adults think in abstract= don’t need to see something to know that it exists or is possible

Those of their own age group with whom that share experience- become more influential as individuals enter into adolescence
