What is the definition of sociology?
It’s the social science that studies human society, social connections, and human behaviour in groups.
The conclusions coming out of sociology are often called social phenomena.
Whom are the main thinkers that helped in the creation of sociology?
Ibn Khaldun in 1940, through his theory of the rise and fall of civilization.
Herbert Spencer in 1851, with his theory of the survival of the fittest.
Karl Marx in 1894. with his theory of social equality.
Max Weber in 1922, with his theory of social models inspired by religion.
What are the three types of statuses?
Ascribed Status: it is appointed on qualifications beyond the person’s control (Age, generation, Gender)
Achieved status: assigned depending on qualifications of the person. (work, sport skills, etc.))
Master status: shapes the personality of the individual during his teenage years up to adulthood (wealth, strength, intelligence)
What does social structures, and social status mean?
Social structure is a network of interrelated statuses and roles that guide human interactions.
A status is a social definition which sets the roles, rights and obligations for individuals within our society
What are the Five forms of Social interactions?
Exchange
Competition
Conflict
Cooperation
Accommodation
