Structural theory
An individual is controlled by social structures
What is the difference between Functionlists and Marxists?
Functionalists - believe we are controlled but to help make society work
Marxists - believe we are controlled but to be exploited
Consensus theory
Society works on a set of shared norms and values
(believe that structural forces help society operate)
Conflict theory
Society and individuals are in a state of conflict. Inequalities of power
Primary socialisation
The way an individual is socialised from ages 0-5. This can be influenced by parents
Secondary socialisation
Any socialisation after primary. E.g education, media, the law, religion

Mirco perspective focuses on the individual and the emphasis on individual liberty
