what is the sociological perspective?
It is the view that a person’s personal social background influences this individual’s behaviour, attitude towards multiple things and the opportunities and things they choose to do with their lives.
what is the debunking motif?
The debunking motif is when you choose to explore reality of others and society in a more deeper and personal, one to one scenario rather than the surface level perspective we are shown.
what did Auguste Comte question and what did he believe?
Auguste Comte had always questioned how society was made and what were the building blocks of society and how society was sustained. Comte supported the positivists in their approach to this which dealt with consensus approach.
what are social facts?
things such as intuitions, norms, values which exist outside of an individual and constrain the individual. These things are considered to be real and they exist independently of the person’s will and desire.
what did Karl Marx believe and what was the Marxism theory?
Karl Marx believed that social order was created and maintained due to conflict.
This theory believes that people’s actions are controlled through debate and convincing.
He focused and laid emphasis on economic determinism, which is the idea that economic forces determine and mold all aspects of a society, and individuals’ life chances.
what is economic determinism?
the belief that the determinants of social and political change are the market forces.
strength of Marxism
it helps understand the role economic factors play when bringing in social change.
weakness of Marxism
This theory does not recognize and acknowledge other forms of conflict such as debate about religion, gender and ethnicities.
the Weberian theory
Weberian Theory basically saw how and what caused societies that were pre-industrial to develop and modernize into industrial societies.
what is modernization?
Modernization included industrialization, urbanization and rationalization. He believed that the modernization in society was occurring due to ideas that were presented by the protestant religion.
what is the protestant religion?
A protestant is a type of Christian that separates himself from the church of Rome or any group that may be descended from it.
what is the social action theory?
Social action theory states that social change is determined by the actions of people influenced by their own free will. For example: Volunteering, charity, community action or simple neighbourly acts.
what is mechanical solidarity?
the social integration of members in a society who all have common values and beliefs
what is organic solidarity?
social integration that rises due to the need to help out other individuals and be of service to them
