Sociocultural Factors on Skills & Stages of Learning Flashcards
What is the cognitive stage of learning?
This is the initial phase of learning of a motor skill where the emphasis is on conscious understanding of the task requirements.
What is the associative stage of learning?
Is the second phase in the learning of a new skill, in which movement patterns become more refined and consistent through practice.
What is the autonomous stage of learning?
Final stage of skill learning where the performer is able to perform the skills automatically.
What is the skill learning continuum?
A continuum is similar to running in a race. There is a beginning and an end but there is also every step in between. The ‘stages of skill learning’ continuum is the same, in that there is a beginning (cognitive), a middle (associative), and an end (autonomous).
What are some examples of sociocultural factors that affect skill learning?
These factors can either be an enabler or barrier or both to skill development.
Cultural factors:
- Education
- Politics
- Religion
- Attitudes
- Race
Social factors:
- Family structure
- Role and status in society
- Time
- Available resources
- Access to equipment
- Access to coaches
