SES
refers to a persons income, occupation and education in relation to others in their society
Unemployment
Can lead to stress and financial hardship. People without secure employment are at higher risk of mental health issues
Social exclusion
when a person does not or cannot adequately participate in society in which they live in. Often associated with mental health issues
Social isolation
Occurs when an individuals are not in regular contact with others. Social isolation increases the risk of mental health issues and psychological distress
Cultural background
customs, ideas, values and traditions of particular social groups. Examples include gender stereotypes, dietary choices, attitudes towards employment, education and health care. all of which impact health outcomes
Food availability
AKA food security has a relationship with health outcomes. Those who cannot afford or access healthy access healthy foods are at a higher risk of chronic diseases
Early life experiences
Impacts both short and long term. Maternal tobacco, alcohol and drug use and maternal nutrition and exposure to certain chemicals, bacteria and viruses during pregnancy. these can contribute to conditions across childhood to adulthood.
Commercial factors
Relate to the impact that the private sector have has on consumption patterns of individuals and groups.
