Relations between Sami and Vikings, Sami had better farming, seen as weird magicians to Vikings

Everything within the home, including finances. Took over men’s roles when husband died
Viking clothing
LAYERS! Wool and flax, boots and shoes were goat or calf skin, hats and gloves were leather or wool, silk or linen was to hold hair back.
Viking jewelry
Broaches were very important, as were rings and necklaces with pendants
Gender in Viking Society
Women had more freedom but were still inferior. Feminine men and masculine women were frowned upon but still existed
Viking Ships
Longships- overlapping wooden planks. Shallow or deep water, raids and warriors. Pulled to shore at night very often
Importance of the Sea
Necessity for trade and travel, also meant getting food and conquering places, very positive association
Concubinage
Polygny was common, men had wives and concubines. Children from both were legitimate, concubines were obtained thoruhg slavery
Runestones
Giant stones carved with runes, memorials to dead men usually.
Farming
Small farms located in towns, focused on small root crops and animals that can be kept through the winter.
