Socialists: EQUALITY OF OUTCOME Flashcards
define equality of outcome
equality of outcome is the idea that rewards should be based on an individual’s contributions to society
this will vary from person to person so some inequality will persist but differences in rewards will be much narrower compared to the free market system
arguments suggesting that socialists are committed to equality of outcome to a great extent
socialists can be said to be broadly committed to equality of outcome because most socialists advocate for it
they seem to share a general agreement as to why equality of outcome should be supported
arguments suggesting that socialists are only committed to equality of outcome to a limited extent
not all strands of socialism support equality of outcome, particularly social democrats and the Third Way
socialists disagree on how committed they are to various methods of achieving equality of outcome
Marxist socialists are more committed to absolute equality
