Q
How was the socialist response criticized?
A
The nationalist and lots of liberals saw it as unpatriotic. Also, the hysteria after the defeat at Caporetto against the defeatists who had ‘stabbed Italy in the back’ led to many PSI becoming imprisoned. Mussolini blamed the socialists claiming they were a much more dangerous enemy than the Austrians.
