What is nurture
Parts of our identity which our learned as a result of our environment
What is nature?
Characteristics of our identity which are fixed by biological factors
What is socialisation?
The process which we learn how to behave in our society
What is primary socialisation?
It happens within the first 5 years of our lives. The agents of primary socialisation are close family or caregivers within the first 5 years. It’s where we learn the basics of how to walk and talk.
What is secondary socialisation?
A result of what happens outside the home. We learn behaviours from other institutions. We learn social norms and values as well as expectations and behaviours.
Primary socialisation can challenge or reinforce what we have learnt previously.
What is a norm?
An unwritten rule which governs our behaviour to be accepted in society
What is a value?
Things we consider to be morally right and is the belief upon the norm
What is social control?
Helps reinforce norms and values to ensure social order
