- all citizens participate

- there are multiple parties
- laws apply to all citizens
- constitution protects citizens’ rights
- 3 branches: legislative, executive, judicial

Rural - low population, “country”, less crime, smaller schools

Traditional: past customs/history guide the economic system
Mixed: mix between market and command, individual freedom
Market: based on supply and demand, little government activity
Command: government controls everything, usually communist countries
Know which government type matches which economic system

Know how to explain GPD/Capita and how to calculate it
GDP of the area (all goods and services produced and income earned by citizens in a year) divided by the population
Know how to tell the difference in the standard of living found in developed and developing countries
Developed: higher standard of living - better medical care, better schooling
Developing: lower standard of living - poor health care, poor schooling
