Compass- tells directions
Caravel- a fast lightweight ship that carries cargo and for exploration
Astrolabe- a device that is used to tell latitude, time, and creates a map of the sky
Weapons/ Gunpowder- used for defense upon arrival to a new place
What motivated the Europeans to explore the world?
God= freedom of religion and converting Native Americans to Christianity Glory= wanting freedom from the Monarchies of the time
Gold= wanting to find wealth with the gold they find
How did Christianity spread during the Age of Exploration?
Missionaries came to the “New World” through the exploration to spread Christianity to the Native Americans.

Coffee- old world
Rice- old world
Wheat- old world
Corn- new world
How did the Spanish become wealthy from the New World while never establishing a strong trade network?
By capturing gold from the Native Americans.
How did mapmaking change between the Roman Empire and the Renaissance?
Map-making became more accurate during the Renaissance.
What was traded during the Columbian Exchange? (Make sure to think about things other than crops)
Food, customs, religion, diseases, goods…
How was the diet of the Europeans changed by the Columbian Exchange?
Europeans now had a more nutritious diet.
