Civilization
An advanced form of culture that includes basic traits such as advanced cities, specialized workers complex institutions, record keeping, and advanced technology.
Society
A group of people who live in a definable community and share the same culture.
Social Hierarchy
A ranking system that organizes society so that some people have greater social status than others.
Government
The system of rules and the people who make and administer them.
Absolute Power
When one has full control over everything
Laws
A rule of conduct or action prescribed or formally recognized as binding or enforced by a controlling authority.
Polytheism
A belief in many gods and goddesses.
Artisans
Skilled workers who made metal products,
cloth, or pottery.
Irrigation
The artificial application of water to the soil through various systems of tubes, pumps, and sprays.
Empire
\A group of countries or regions that are controlled by one ruler or one government.
City-State
A community that included a city and its nearby farmlands.
Public Works
Works constructed for public use or enjoyment especially when financed and owned by the government.
Agricultural Revolution
Specific periods in human civilization when farming techniques drastically improved the mass cultivation of crops within a relatively short period of time.
Mesopotamia
The land between the Tigris and Euphrates river. It was mostly flat with small, scrubby plants.
Hammurabi’s Code
A set of laws created by King Hammurabi to govern the people of Babylon.
