Imperialism
A takeover of a country or territory by a stronger nation with the intent of dominating the political, social, and economic life of the people of that territory.
Nationalism
The competition with other nations to prove your national greatness.
White Man’s Burden
The task that white colonizers believed they had to impose their civilization on the black inhabitants of their colonies.
Genocide
The deliberate killing of a large group of people especially especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation.
Apartheid
A type of system that separates people by their color.
Ethnocentrism
The viewing of ones culture as superior to the others, and applying your own culture’s values to judge people in other countries.
Rite of Passage
A special ceremony or ritual that marks a particular stage of life, such as reaching adulthood.
Ex: Baptism, Marriage, 16th birthday, Drivers license, 18th birthday, and 21st birthday.
Developed Nation
High standards of living and economics based on a combination of industry, service, and agriculture. (wealthy)
Developing Nation
Low standards of living, little industry, and an economy that mostly relies on farming. (poverty)
