The Iroquois became much stronger than the Algonquins because the Iroquois organized 5 tribes to form the Iroquois “league of nations” the Algonquins were less structured and had no political organization

Clans were groups of Native American family members who lived in small villages. The clans were named after an animal because they thought that the animals would protect their clan. Turkey, wolf, and turtle were three names names we read about

A council was a group of Native American men chosen to run clans. The tribes had a system of justice. When an unwritten law was broken, a council would decide how to settle the problem

The main job of a council was to keep peace among the tribes, settle disagreements, and make discussions

The Iroquois built long houses for many families. The Algonquins built wigwams for individual families. The iroquois built fences around their villages for pretection. Algonquins built sweat lodges

They are corn, beans, and squash. They are called this because they became the basic food of the Native Americans

Wampum were strings of beads the Iroquois used to record stories and events. It was used as means of trading for other items to show a peace treaty.

Native Americans bartered for European goods(guns and metal tools) with the furs they trapped A synonym for barter is trade.
What can you tell us about the modern rodes
Many of our modern rodes followed the paths made by the Native Americans. They were excellent trail makers and chose their paths carefully. Native Americans were often kind to other travelers. They built shelters along this path.
