Social Role Valorization and Wounding Flashcards
SVR Wound 1
Bodily Impairment - A person is born or develops some sort of impairment
SVR Wound 2
Functional Impairment - As a result of the bodily impairment, there are functional impairments.
SVR Wound 3
Relegation to Low Social Status - As a result of my bodily/impairments, society relegates me to low social status to the point that I am considered deviant.
SVR Wound 4
Attitude of rejection-disproportionately/relentlessly - Because of my bodily/functional impairment I experience rejection by society, and the rejection is relentless in that it occurs all the time in most social environments.
SVR Wound 5
Cast into one or more historic deviancy roles … social status causes devalued roles or vice versa - Non human, a menace, a waste, object of pity, a charity case, a child, better off dead
SVR Wound 6
Symbolic stigmatizing, “marking”, “deviancy imaging”, “branding”
SVR Wound 7
Being multiply jeopardized/scapegoated - Thought to be the reason for many negative things that occur in the environments this person is found in.
SVR Wound 8
Distanciation: usually via segregation and also congregation …
SVR Wound 9
Absence of loss of natural, freely given relationships & substitution with artificial/boughten ones. i.e. people are paid to be with me.
SVR Wound 10
Loss of control, perhaps even autonomy and freedom. “for their own good”
SR Wound 11
Discontinuity with the physical environment and objects “physical discontinuation” … lack of access.
SVR Wound 12
Social and relationship discontinuity & even abandonment.
SVR Wound 13
Deindividualization, “mortification” reducing humanness
SVR Wound 14
Involuntary material poverty, material/financial exploitation - stripping what you have.
SVR Wound 15
Impoverishment of experiences especially of that of the typical valued world - Never been to a restaurant, movie, church, etc.
