social practical Flashcards
aim
find out whether there are differences in the levels of obedience between men and women
sample
20 male and 20 female ppts aged 40-50
procedure
-self report questionaire was created after brain storming key factors related to obedience
-both likert scale and open questions were used like how obedient woul you rate yourself on a scale from one to 10 and why might you disobey an authority figure
-once written the questionaire was piloted to ensure the correct questions were being asked
-they were then handed out using oppertunity sampling
-once complete ppts were debreifed
results
conclusion
Strengths of study
-followed ethical guidelines informed consent ,right to withdraw, debrief, confidentiality so results are more cred
-questionaires being confidental reduces social desirability so ppts are less likely lie=improves validity
-used closed qs which provide quan data which is easy to analyse and compare diff between men and women
-used open qs which can lead to rich detailed answwers =valid
-sample included both males and females=diverse=representitive=generalisable
weakness
-sample collected using oppertunity sampling from freinds and family so may not be generalisable as they share characteristics =not representive
-could be distressing to ask about obedience levels while we watched them =could cause psychological harm=reduces ethics=reduces credibility
-open qs are vunreable to subjectivity in how ppts interpret questions so results wouldnt be valid because the differences in gender obedince is down to opinion not fact
