Social Learning Theory Flashcards
What is social learning theory ?
A way oof explaining behaviour that includes both direct and indirect reinforcement, combining learning theory with the role of cognitive factors
Albert Bandura (1961)
- learning occurs from observing others
- mind+environment+behaviour all have a hand in learning behaviour
- considers cognitive process
Vicarious reinforcement
We learn through modelling
- this is when a behaviour is learnt through observing a model (only if this behaviour is seen to be rewarded)
What are the 4 meditational processes ???
Attention, retention, motor reproduction, motivation
meditational processes: attention
The extent to which we notice a behaviour
meditational processes: retention
The individual; remembers what they have observed
meditational processes:motor reproduction
Th individual replicates the behaviour shown by the model
meditational processes: motivation
The individual seeks to demonstrate the behaviour that they have observed
What are the 2 different types of models???
Live models, symbolic model
What is a live model ???
Physically present in our environment e.g mother, father, friend
What is a symbolic model ????
People in films, books, cartoons
(Generally have a greater impact where the media is widely available)
