Social Learning Theory Flashcards
What does social learning theory argue
suggests that social behaviour is learned by observing and imitating the behaviour of others
What are keys terms in social learning theory
-imitation
-identification
-modelling
-vicarious reinforcement
-mediational processes
what is vicarious reinforcement
learning a behaviour by observing the positive or negative actions of others
What are the four mediational processes
Attention
Retention
Motor Reproduction (memory)
Motivation
What was Banduras Bobo Doll experiment in 1961
children were watching adults hit and throw things at the bobo dolls e.g. pushing, kicking, punching and throw things at it and after would be left alone with the doll and it was found that they were repeating what they had seen. Similarly, if the adults did nothing to the dolls the children would do the same in that scenario as well
what was Banduras Bobo Doll experiment in 1963
The children watched three videos the first one being that the adult would beat up this doll and be rewarded. The second was that they would watch an adult beat up the doll and be punished and the third was that they watched someone beat up the doll and nothing happened after it there was no reward or consequence.
What are demand characteristics
Working out what you think your expected to do
What are strengths of the SLT
-Vicarious reinforcement
-Banduras Bobo Dolls showed lots of evidence in how children learned through observation
what are limitations of SLT
-There’s ethical limitations within this theory
